About Kate

"I have always been interested in heads and faces and like to combine the realistic with the fantastical."
Kate Schmeidler
Kate graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in art history from New York University. She attended classes at the Art Students League, Sarah Lawrence College, the Mid-Westchester YM-YWHA, and the Westchester Art Workshop (now WCC Center for the Arts).
For many years she sculpted in stone, wood, and wax, making many large pieces that are too large and heavy to transport for this exhibit. Kate has exhibited some of her sculptures in such venues as the New Rochelle Art Association, the Larchmont Public Library, Mamaroneck Artists Guild, and Noah's Ark in Stonington, Connecticut.
For the past twelve years she has worked almost exclusively in fiber and modeling paste, especially in making masks. As a side interest she has been making paper and mixed media collages and has been exhibiting these pieces at various nearby sites.
